As August gets underway..
...a couple of thoughts.
Firstly, bigtime congrats to Noah & The Whale for getting into the Top 10 of the singles chart with '5 Year's Time'. While I know the charts are much of a muchness these days it's certainly refreshing to see a band like them cross over.
They're an lovely bunch, armed with a top-drawer live show and a sense of momentum which has been building superbly for quite a while now. Here's to the single climbing even higher and the album selling by the well-deserved bucketload.
Moving into slightly louder circles, I thought I'd give a mention to The Automatic. Admittedly I'm yet to hear their 'Steve McQueen' single, but having sampled the title track of their forthcoming second album, the recruitment of former Yourcodenameis:milo frontman Paul Mullen may prove a to be masterstroke.
The band have been written off by many in the aftermath of Pennie's departure, but Mullen's voice complements that of Rob Hawkins brilliantly, and this song is a decent progression from the 'Not Accepted Anywhere' material. Sure, one song won't make an album and they're not necessarily going to turn into world-beaters, but I'd be curious to hear people's views on the new-look line-up.
And finally, a quick passing reference to Xavier Rudd. I saw him live in Bristol last week, and the show was a joy to behold. Catch my review of the gig here on DMG in the near future.

Thought I'd mark my first DMG post by bringing you a run-down of the 10 most played tunes on my iPod in the last 7 days (think of it as me getting all Mark Goodier-meets-Last.fm on your ass).
One rule: song's gotta be in the "Recently Added" list, i.e. new(-ish) to my collection.
Do you smell a whiff of 'potential semi-regular feature' in the air? I think I can.
Anyway, here you go:
1 THE HOLD STEADY - Stay Positive (13 plays)
2 BECK - ORPHANS (11)
3 THE WHO - Baba O'Riley (SebastiAn Remix) (10)
4 BLACK KIDS - Partie Traumatic (9)
5 CRYSTAL FIGHTERS - I Love London (8)
6= BLAKFISH - Jeremy Kyle Is A Marked Man (7)
6= THE HOLD STEADY - Constructive Summer (7)
8= WE ARE SCIENTISTS - Chick Lit (Danger TV Remix) (6)
8= COOL KIDS - '88 (6)
10 DEASTRO - Michael, The Lone Archer Of The North Shore (5)
Only time will tell if this is of any importance to anyone ever.
