All or Nothing

It's definitely always the case with me, I just can't help it. In the sense that I am either doing absolutely nothing, or everything at once! My life has been pretty pretty hectic recently, but it's been a productive offspring of hectic so I'm not one to moan!

I shall begin.

I publicly stated that when my Mac was fixed, I would do more on DMG and for my own music - I was a tad complacent on the DMG side of things, but me and my band have been annoying as many open mic nights as possible and managed to score a few gigs as well. Which is nice.

These past few weeks, however, the boot is quite firmly on the other foot. Other peoples music and careers have been my focus, and it appears to be working out nicely! I've been writing lots of articles, interviewing lots of people for the radio station where I'm doing my work placement (Lily Loveless aka Naomi of Skins included!), and trying to organise getting as many festivals as possible covered this summer - combining this all with another part time job is a difficult task, I'm tired!

But tiredness aside, I think it's good being very busy all the time because you get lots more done :)

The interview with Lily Loveless has been uploaded to my Twitter (olzord), so check it out if you fancy.

That is all for now.

MY MAC WORKS AGAIN

Howdy ho! I haven't written on here in a good while, and I feel like I've been re-acquainted with an old friend from school - it's a beautiful piece of imagery.

The reason for my not being here, as the title may cause one to assume, is due to my Mac deciding to be silly and it stopped working. The lack of my input was perhaps not noticed by people (other than John, he missed me!), however it caused me great distress, because I wanted to carry on doing stuff.

ANYWAYS, enough with the stupid explanations that nobody particularly cares about. The reason for bloggage is because I have a few things to report to the world:

Last week I went to see Mystery Jets perform a DJ set in Area 51, Manchester... WOW. Absolutely amazing night, I got extremely sweaty and jumpy aroundy, it was quality and I highly recommend them.

I always kinda have myself a 'tune of the week', and it's basically a new tune that I obsess over and tell people about in order to enlighten them. And although I can't remember many from previous weeks... this week it is all about Calvin Harris' remix of Passion Pit - 'The Reeling'. Mr. Harris took an already great tune and made it even better. CHECK IT YOOO.

Also, I've got marks for 2 of my modules so far this year (2nd Year at uni beeteedoubleyou) and I got 2:1 for both of them...ACE.

Turrah for now.

Observation of a Slovak Housemate - I Have a Stupid Face

After a large amount of watered down Carslberg and various shots, one must partake in a bit of dancefloor fun and pretend that the respective Student Union bar is being put on by Ministry of Sound and has sets being put on by EZ, bit of Caspa & Rusko, and of course a nice slice of Mark Ronson for good measure - a fitting escape from the reality that is.

And as the student on the decks once again tries their best not to falter from that of the mainsteam, the students on the dancefloor must demonstrate how much of their liver they have destroyed by dancing like a kangaroo. This to me is an average Friday night, and making something out of nothing is what I like.

"WHAT IS THE EFFING POINT OF THIS RAMBLING YOU STUPID IDIOT? AND HOW IS IT RELATED TO THE TITLE? AND HOW MANY SHOTS DID YOU HAVE I BET I CAN DRINK MORE THAN YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A LIGHTWEIGHT!"

Above is what may fill your minds, but this stupid rambling does actually have a point. My (foreign) housemate, completely intoxicated of course, explained when we got back to our scumble abode:

"Yo man, when you English people dance, you all make stupid faces! I noticed you doing it Olly, so I looked around, and everyone was doing it!"

...followed by various fowl expressions of questioning / surprise. And although this picture isn't from this night that I speak of, I no doubt looked something like this:

Very nice.

So what I concluded is the following: the reason we pull stupid faces is because it validates dancing stupidly if you give yourself a stupid face. Otherwise you just look stupid.

Thank you very much for your time, props to the Slovakian observational greatness (I may turn his observations into a regular thing?).

How On Earth Could I Do Such A Thing

Afternoon all. I return to the blog once again, funnily enough though this isn't too long after the first post has been published, but that doesn't matter in the slightest! Because I am happy due to a number of cans of Fosters.

Subject? Basically, I told myself I'd use this blog for the sole purpose of talking about music other than my own, yet I feel compelled to talk about things that have gone on in my small life as a music artist.

Basics, I'm at Uni, and I'm in the Live Music Society, and I performed with two of my house mates, and I suppose we're kind of a band, even though it's those two fantastic chaps supporting my songs. It consists of me on the rap vocals, Sampha on the Synth whilst singing, and Filip on the Guitar whilst singing. It's an odd combination but seems to work well.

So what I would like, is people to help. I am not signed, I have no manager or anything close. But I want to promote myself. The plan is to perform at as many live music places, far and wide, as possible. And I am quite aware that those reading this now may quite possibly live somewhere other than where I reside, which is Watford and Warrington.

So, ongoing February (March at the latest) I plan on going everywhere, and I wanted to let people know how hyped up I am on doing so. The spectacle is as follows:

I'm the mug in the middle.

Besides all that excitement, I would like to share some musical things.

There's a guy called Kwes that really deserves a listen by all means, he's releasing a single very soon and both tracks can be heard on his MySpace, I can't quite label it at all, he's one of those producers that you really can't pin down to a genre, but he still knows what he's doing for sure! Check him out at www.myspace.com/kwes. Nice one.

And also, if you're curious about what I may or may not do, and missed my last blog, you can find me at www.myspace.com/ollymonsta, I pledge to regularly update this site with what I plan to do.

Thank you for reading, love.

New Person Says Hello

I thought that it's only right that I take the time to introduce myself properly, say some random boring rubbish about myself, and that I project a bit of my annoying personality onto this blog.

My name, quite obviously, is Olly. This is short for Oliver. I do many interesting things with my life; I'm a student at University of Chester, Warrington Campus, studying Commercial Music Production, I spend my weekends crying in a call center, I make my own music, and I now write on here.

The main focus of the entry today is the me making music section of my life. I'm currently working on an EP, which will be available for free from my MySpace profile at the end of January 2009, exciting stuff. If you are tempted to look at my profile, there are songs on there, it is www.myspace.com/ollymonsta, fantastic. Feedback is much appreciated, even if it results in you saying that I shouldn't be reviewing other peoples' music when mine is clearly rubbish.

Although I will still be updating this blog as regularly as I can, I also have a blog on my profile, have a butch at that for news on what I'm doing musically (if you care).

But yeah, so now you know a little bit about my weird little self. And the main thought of this entry is I find it brilliant how I have loads to do, and I mean loads, yet I've still had the time to sit here and do absolutely nothing all night (apart from reviewing The Irrepressibles album, check em yo). Amazing.

Anyways, that's enough for now, I'm gonna do some washing and watch Apocalypto. So if you leave this blog with anything, it is that you MUST, without a shadow of a doubt, check out my MySpace.

Until next time.
