A Brief Thought On MJ

Status wishes he was at Glasto :(
The tragic news arrived to me on Thursday night via the dubious source of a Facebook rumour. Sitting at my desk meaninglessly browsing, a few status updates flicked up with news of Jackson being rushed to hospital with a heart attack. Thinking it was another kind of vicious ‘create a celebrity death’ prank, I thought nothing of it. Then swiftly after that came the rumours that he was in a coma. Then the final flood of panic that he had died. It almost felt like I had a live feed from the hospital in LA. It was all over so quickly.

Being only twenty years of age I don’t feel that I have ever been able to experience the full impact of Jackson's career, and although I am able to see beyond the novelty of an occasional play of 'Thriller' in Reflex on a Thursday night, I can’t begin to say I share the full emotional impact that his death has had on so many people all over the world.

But when reading the confirmation news article on the LA Times website the reality suddenly kicked in that he was no longer with us, and I stopped for a few moments and contemplated the immensity of the man that was Michael Jackson. Despite all the controversy about his criminal trials and his somewhat peculiar style of living, this great man has earned true 'legend' status with millions of music lovers in every corner of the world. Despite all of his negative press this man was well and truly worshiped and loved. The next morning within a hundred metres of walking from my front door I heard on three separate occasions cars blaring out Michael Jackson's classic hits in dedication to the great man. The world has lost a mutual musical child.

Even with his clear iconic status and being an invincible force in the music industry for so many years, his death has struck me as having such a beautiful sense of normality. A man who would be described as anything but normal has been stripped down to his bare human qualities and died in a hospital bed with his family at his side. His life of controversy has ended in a death that is simple and dignified, washing away all the negative memories and helping fans to remember him for his unique talent and ability.

Whatever anyone says about him, Michael Jackson was a human being just like all of us. And on Thursday a true legend left us.

RIP Michael Jackson.

Greetings readers.

My name is Jack.

I have decided to enter into the world of Daily Music Guide and I thought it only polite for me to introduce myself quickly before I begin my musical journey into getting to know you all.

I was introduced by BFFE and fellow DMG writer Olly Hunter. (See B-LOW)

I am at Birmingham University doing English with Creative Writing and have just found out today that I have passed my second year (woop), so unfortunately I only have one year left of student fun. Then out into the real world for stuff like mortgages and tax which I'm yet to get my head around. My hometown is Watford - which isn't that special apart from being close to London and sporting a new multimillion pound Oceana (still deliberating whether it's a good or a bad thing to be honest. hmm)

In terms of music you're most likely to see me at a Drum n Bass/Dubstep rave on a friday night, but don't judge me for that - I like listening to all sorts of stuff. At this very moment the UK hip-hop artist Jehst is playing on my itunes. I like lots.

To be honest that's about all there is to me really. I look forward to the times ahead we are about to share together.
