Too early for thinking about festivals?
The festive season is here and with it comes the lull in major music events as everyone is generally too full of turkey and mince pies. So what else is there to do apart from look forward to the summer and the festivals it brings.
Wacken Open Air is already looking very impressive, as well as Bloodstock; both are certainly on my agenda already. No idea about Download as yet, but after last year's dodgy line-up, I'm not entirely sure I want to look. Reading/Leeds will no doubt have at least some interesting bands on the bill, although RATM will certainly be a hard act to follow. V Festival, ever growing in popularity, will have to work hard to outdo last year's lineup, but I have a feeling it might just do it.
See? There is already so much to think about. Hmm, I wonder if there'll be any wellies in this year's Christmas sales...
Leeds Festival 2008
Are you all OK? Did you survive the mud? It was a close call but I managed to return with all my trousers and both shoes.
For those of you that went (and sadly for those who didn't), it was all made worth while for the mighty Rage Against The Machine, I'm sure.
The only let down of the weekend, for me and other fans of a heavier style of music, was that Slipknot had to pull out, causing the delay of the start of the festival on Friday.
But all in all an excellent weekend of mud, mates, music and mud. A super line-up to celebrate the fetival's tenth birthday.
Same time next year?...
Festivals
The sun is shining, the smell of BBQs is in the air and it is most definitely time to be traipsing across a muddy / blisteringly hot field. Many people have already done the Download or Glastonbury thing but Wacken, Reading/Leeds and one of my particular (British) favourites, Bloodstock Open Air, are still looming on the horizon.
Time to dig out those tents and be prepared for 3 (in some lucky people's cases, 5) days off from the world, accompanied by some outstanding music. If, as in my case, you prefer your music leaning towards the heavier side of things, then get your finger exercises in for throwing plenty of horns and bullying any younger siblings into practising your circle pit / crowd surfing skills won't go amiss either.
Just don't forget the wet wipes...
