Doherty ordered to pay for broken camera

29-year-old musician Pete Doherty smashed a photographer's camera on a day out with his family before he had to return to rehab, a court heard today.

The Babyshambles front man allegedly chased photographer Cath Mead into a shop in Crewkerne, Somerset, in August last year after she took a shot of his then girlfriend, Irina Lazareanu. The Babyshambles frontman lost his temper with the photographer when she followed him around the town.

The 29-year-old grabbed the camera and broke the lens after inviting Ms Mead and a colleague to introduce themselves. Ms Mead was not seriously injured but damage was caused to her camera.

When Doherty failed to show up to answer the charge at Yeovil Magistrates Court last week, a warrant was issued for his arrest. At 11.03am on Thursday, Doherty, dressed in a black suit and brown hat, arrived at the court in a Toyota people carrier and was met by his solicitor.
The former drug addict battled through a crowd of photographers and fans to get into the building. Doherty was listed to appear before magistrates at 10am.
