The Hives record Christmas song with Cyndi Lauper

The Hives and Cyndi Lauper have collaborated on a Christmas song.

The Swedish garage band and the 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' singer will release 'A Christmas Duel' as a free download on 28th November.

It will also be available to buy in the UK from December 1.

In a statement, The Hives said: "It may sound weird and come as a surprise to some, but we had to. It came to us. It landed in our lap and was way too good to shake or toss. We knew we had to record it. A sign if you will."

Lauper is reported to have stated: "This goes to show even rat side-swipers can have a good Xmas, too."
