Britney Spears - If U Seek Amy (Sony BMG)

There was once a time when hidden meanings in songs took hours of careful research and painstaking listening. Not anymore, especially with ol’ Britney around.

To get it out of the way, Britney’s declaration of "all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy," if said extremely fast, could be interpreted as a phrase not for the ears of many of her young fans. Word of warning though: it hardly rolls off the tongue and it’s not that impressive when it does.

'If U Seek Amy', setting aside the complete disregard for grammatical correctness throughout the track, begins with Britney easing herself in with a series of "la la la's". It soon becomes clear that the heavy reliance on synthesisers that Ms Spears has adopted since her musical return continues unabated.

Produced by Max Martin, the chap behind 'Oops...', this certainly forces you to play it again, partly because you are compelled to say the title in a funny accent to prove you get the meaning and partly because the chorus is annoyingly catchy.

Overall, not a bad offering from Britney. And don’t worry, if you can’t work out the supposedly ‘hidden’ phrase, just say it faster – although this may prove an even more entertaining way to pass the time.
