Creed's reuniting was largely ignored outside America, partly because of the love of Alter Bridge (the band Creed had formed without vocalist Scott Stapp) but also because of their reputation. Despite 35 million album sales by the Christian Metal band, you won't find many people admitting to owning one. They're that kind of band.
Classic Creed hits like 'Six Feet From The Edge', 'My Sacrifice' and 'Old' (admittedly helped to fame courtesy of the WWE) sounded a lot better before you realised they were about God, before you knew Scott Stapp was an alcoholic and before Nu Metal was abolished.
'Rain' is taken from the latest Creed release Full Circle, which can be described in one word as ecuminical, and is awful in unique ways. This single is no different, obviously the token ballad, you feel neither the emotion nor the technical superiority of previous efforts.
The songwriting is sloppy and blunt ("with every day comes another life, I feel it's going to rain...for days and days!") and it has an antique sound, as un-needed in this present time as Twisted Sister ever were. The saving grace is the guitar work of Mark Tremonti. But having said that, Stapp still sings over his guitar solo, and makes a cryptic comment that you'll soon realise is about baptism.
Even if you admit that you used to like Creed, and owned several of their albums, this new reunion is not your thing. It's hard to say who it's for, other than the band members. This is nothing more then a requiem for Nu Metal, with 'Rain' a shovel of dirt into the open grave.
