Elbow - The Bones Of You (Fiction)

Finally, Elbow have received the industry recognition they deserve. It’s been a long time coming but with their Mercury award placed proudly above their mantlepiece, they can start to reap the benefits of success.

New single release 'The Bones Of You' is yet another outstanding piece of music from the Bury lads. Lead vocalist Guy Garvey has one of the most recognisable voices of recent years and in this three minute epic it comes across more strongly than ever.

The song has an almost flamenco undertone which complements the mellow, soulful vocals perfectly. It is composed with finesse, from the gentle percussion to the delicate and then powerful guitar which swoops in when you least expect it. As with the rest of their fine-tuned tracks, 'The Bones Of You' is beautifully understated yet superbly crafted. It builds up slowly, launching into a rousing chorus complete with the poetic lyrics that Garvey is so well known for producing.

The appeal of this song, and of the band overall, lies in their ability to make simple, honest music, bypassing the fluffiness of Coldplay and their ilk. Any music lover will be able to appreciate the quality of 'The Bones Of You' from the outset. Emotionally rich and powerful, it more than proves that Elbow are one of Britain’s finest exports.
