Enter Shikari - We Can Breathe In Space... (Ambush Reality)
Enter Shikari set the bar high in 2006 when debut 'Take To The Skies' not only rocketed into the top 5 of the UK album charts, but the band themselves gained recognition as a fantastic live act. They become known as one of the most exciting British bands around, fusing trance and post-hardcore punk, something to which the mainstream was unsurprisingly unaccustomed.
After the success of their first album, their second offering had to be brilliant. But instead of releasing a new song as their new lead single, Enter Shikari have re-worked an old demo song that they left off their debut. The result is that barely any of the original 'We Can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape' is recognisabe, but this is a good thing. Their signature energy courses throughout the track over a fully integrated trance beat and a soaring chorus.
The vocals are as tight as ever and the song features another classically 'trippy' bridge and end. However, as far as accessability goes, this is not a song for people new to the band. The song lacks the urgency of the band's previous singles and is simply devoid of the mind-filly catchiness of 'Johnny Sniper' or 'Mothership'. Overall, this is a great song for fans accustomed to Enter Shikari, but it might not have been the best choice as first single from their new album.
Rating: 3.5/5
