Kyte - Two Stars, Two Sparks (Kids)

Kyte The English version of Sigur Ros have arrived and they are Leicestershire band Kyte. That is certainly not a bad thing, as Sigur Ros are exceptional at what they do and this five-piece are well on their way to that level.

Critically lauded by most of the country's music press, Kyte's Icelandic influences are extremely apparent but in no way to their detriment. They create a beautiful ethereal sound - one review said they create 'glacial landscapes' and absurd as that may sound to some it is very accurate; in fact their sound has a slightly chilly, wintery edge that makes it perfect for this time of year.

Each song they have so far produced has been lovingly crafted and comes complete with breathy, soothing vocals that recall Mercury-nominated Maps. This makes for a beautiful sound that the listener can just let wash over them. 'Two Stars, Two Sparks' is a highlight, but anybody who hasn’t heard Kyte's stunning cover of Peter Gabriel's 'Solsbury Hill' needs to - as soon as possible.

Groups like Arcade Fire and Sigur Ros show that such majestic soundscapes and a penchant for the unusual can produce mainstream success. Should the BBC be looking for a new soundtrack to their latest wildlife series, they would do well to look to Kyte.
