Little Boots - New In Town (679/Atlantic)
It seems ridiculous that 'New In Town' is being publicised as the debut single from Little Boots. Previous EPs Stuck On Repeat and Meddle initially caused Victoria Hesketh to get noticed, but it was the BBC's Sound of 2009 accolade that secured her the attention only usually bestowed upon someone much more well-established.
Produced by Greg Kurstin - who works in a similar vein with Kylie and Lily Allen - the track is about a first visit to Los Angeles, where hopes and dreams can be recognised or crushed in the same breath. Unfortunately, that message just doesn't come through.
Full to the brim with synths, 'New In Town' will no doubt be a winner on the dancefloor. However, in other circumstances you'd be forgiven for forgetting this track pretty easily if it wasn't for the commotion surrounding this particular lass.
For every person who says the lyrics "I want to take you out tonight/I want to make you feel alright/I don't have a lot of money/But we'll be fine" are unoriginal, there will be somebody who says they are some of the cleverest lyrics ever to have been uttered. Maybe.
Compared to her other MySpace tracks, this one just feels a little too familiar, as if it's been done before. Little Boots' debut album, Hands, due out in June, should surely hold some shinier gems than this. If not, we can always blame the BBC.
Rating: 3.5/5

This song is just so catchy. Can't help but move and sway to the rythms.
