Pendulum - Koko, London (28/07/2008)
This was reportedly the most demanded gig throughout the entire month-long, free festival hosted by music giant iTunes. With other fantastic artists like Dizzee Rascal and overnight international favourites The Ting Tings also available, some may question why the demand for Pendulum was so high.
Just about halfway through their summer tour, including festivals across Europe, Pendulum are currently rebuilding their reputation for insanely hectic live performances. With word spreading fast about this summer's festival favourite, the people of the UK united as one for the head spinning Pendulum experience at Koko.
The venue was packed from wall-to-wall with the oddest crowd you could imagine. From metal rockers to sports-clad city kids, there was an obvious respect in the atmosphere for the Australian band. Pendulum's stage presence soon had everyone's full attention locked in, bringing the venue to a stand still as they eagerly waited for the madness to begin.
As soon as the synth blasted out, a hurricane of energy ripped through the crowd and everyone went wild. Swinging from their old school heavy bassline tunes through to future classics, the fans' strong passion for their music still remains clearly visible without even the slightest hint of tedium. Pendulum made their gratitude to fans more than known throughout the show and spun out the massive 'Hold Your Colour' a few times to get the venue jumping.
Through fast-paced beats and mind scrambling synths, Pendulum managed to keep the mood high and energies flowing. Just when the audience thought they couldn't go on any longer, they dropped beats that launched the body into overdrive.
An encore loud enough to make ears bleed gave clear proof that love of Pendulum's unique style is intense among their followers. The stage was set on fire with a remix of 'Hold Your Colour'. It's unlikely any one person walked out of the venue without feeling pretty euphoric that night.
