Placebo - For What It's Worth (PIAS)

Its always exceptionally exciting when a band like Placebo return with a new single. Their last release, Meds, was way back in 2006, so it's about time this band returned with new material. 'For What It's Worth' does little to disappoint fans old and new with its infectious sound. In fact, Placebo have returned with a single that is practically impossible to stop listening to once you start.

And no wonder, at just under three minutes long, that this song leaves you desperate for more. You can do little else but listen over and over and over again. Yet for being so short, this single is not just a few lyrics and some guitar thrown together for the sake of it. This is a cleverly concocted creation of poetry meets musical mastery.

Placebo use their instruments to create an electric atmosphere that bands like Muse are still striving to achieve. You just know this single is dying to be heard live. This is a band that can make rock music sound new and edgy, effortlessly putting modern bands to shame. Who wouldn't fall in love with the bone-chillingly fabulous voice of Brian Molko?

'For What It's Worth' is a welcome return for Placebo and hopefully just a taste of what is still to come.

I actually thought the single was pretty bad. But then I heard it live, and it was much better. Still, I guess it will take a few more listens to actually really get into the new album.
