Sia - Clap Your Hands (Monkey Puzzle)

Sia Sia is the singer that decided some people have real problems. She has also provided us with fabulous electro pop that often tilted towards the darker variety. But on her fourth studio album – the forthcoming, We Are Born – her music is more upbeat and a homage to childhood influences like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

On 'Clap Your Hands' – the record's second single – Sia is having a grand party and you're all invited. There's plenty of fairy bread, streamers and maracas to keep us all going until next century and we're in for one gay old time.

The song features some of the best clapping committed to record since Hall & Oates' 'Private Eyes'. This is then combined with a tasty combination of retro elements, meaning you've got something that could be easily interchangeable with anyone from Bertie Blackman and La Roux to eighties bubblegum pop.

Lyrically the song tackles a very simple concept and thus, is one you can imagine annoying those people who discount modern art for its apparent effortlessness. It's basically designed to resonate with as many listeners as possible and occasionally feels like it may make it over the line. But be forewarned, you will need a translator to decipher the words because they're as difficult to understand as Bob Dylan or John Fogerty.

With the lights out it really is less dangerous. So all that's left is an opportunity to put your hands together, indulge the singer and enjoy this particular date with the night.
