The Script - Before The Worst (Sony)

So far The Script's releases suggest they are very much your 'easy listening, background music as you work' kind of band. This latest effort says no different. Spectacular keyboards and Danny O'Donoghue's soothing voice have made the Dublin boys a housewives' favourite, with their album still in the UK Top 40 after a staggering ten months.

For fifth single 'Before The Worst', released June 15th, they have very much kept the formula that has brought them so much success - the dramatic and emotional chorus that inspires the boybandish look to the skies with fists clenched image is still there for all to hear. Indeed, so is the manner in which O'Donoghue presents his verses.

Keeping the heartfelt lyrics synonymous with their previous releases, O'Donoghue delivers them in that snappy relaxed manner that acts like King Blues and Jamie T are delivering at the moment. Although he may do it in a much milder and toned down style compared to his peers, it works and it works well.

This new release is once again extremely radio friendly and while it may not gain the Irish band many new fans, it will definitely satisfy their current fans. Another example of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Fair play to them for doing what they do best, but it will be very interesting to see if they can reproduce this next time round.
