The Ting Tings - Shut Up And Let Me Go (Columbia)
Following the success of their chart-topping single 'That's Not My Name', The Ting Tings certainly have a lot of work to do to prove their success is not limited to the embarrassing ranks of the one-hit wonder.
Continuing in the same pop-spirit, 'Shut Up And Let Me Go' does not disappoint. Starting with the infectious drum-line immortalized in their debut single 'Great DJ', the song quickly picks up momentum. The verses (that bear more than a passing resemblance to CSS melodies) quickly get the beat of the song in place, perfectly framing the impact of the title line. The catchy, shout back line is filled with punky pop sass and assures that the song will be as popular as its predecessor.
The song, already snapped up as an infamous iTunes advert, perfectly infuses modern day indie/pop with an '80s disco-style baseline. While not necessarily original or groundbreaking, the song encapsulates a sense of fun, which comes in perfect time for the summer.
While new fans are sure to love the poptastic tune, it may be the last nail in the coffin for The Ting Tings as a credible indie-band. Such obvious chart-mongering is sure to displease Hoxtonites and the band's inevitable crossover to the mainstream is bound to cause offence.
Silly and fun, loud and in your face, 'Shut Up And Let Me Go' may not be a classic song, but it's bound to get you on your feet all summer long.
