The Ting Tings - Shut Up And Let Me Go (Columbia)

For Jules De Martino and Katie White, the Ting Tings to those not in the know, the only way is up. After a successful set at this year's T in the Park the band have gone from strength to strength, releasing the third single from debut album We Started Nothing, the infectious and catchy 'Shut Up and Let Me Go', which sees White and De Martino score their first US singles chart position inside the top 60.

Lennon/McCartney they may not be, but you can't deny their skill at penning bubbly, dancey pop lyrics and tunes that hold your attention. Despite 'Shut Up And Let Me Go''s short length, clocking in at 2.54, from the single's first drumbeat to its abrupt end, you can't help but tap and hum along.

The Ting Tings are popular, British, and writing what people want to sing along to - and getting the radio play to match. This single is certain to sell copies by the bucketload. Even though it's not going to be for everyone, it might just entice fans from other rather more specialised genres towards this kind of music - the kind with short, cheerful lyrics and a good rhythm.
