We Are Scientists - Impatience (Virgin Records)

Oh, the curse of the second album. You have to feel just a little bit bad for all those poor old indie bands who know the critics will jump at the chance to slate any post-debut releases. Sadly, the case hasn't been any different for New York's finest - We Are Scientists.

Now on single release number three from album Brain Thrust Mastery, We Are Scientists have selected the inoffensive 'Impatience' to try and woo back those that may have abandoned ship after previous single 'Chick Lit'. From the start, We Are Scientists have been a band whose music takes a bit of getting used to. This single is no exception.

On the first listen it's okay, nothing special but nothing terrible. After two or three listens, you start to realise that actually it's really quite good and possibly even one of the strongest songs on the album. With its undeniable catchiness, infectious multiple hooks and, as always, the perfect sing-a-long chorus, it's simply a good old-fashioned pop-rock record. What's not to like about that?

'Impatience' may not be ground-breaking but it's likeable, the lyrics are decent and as with all We Are Scientists songs it has a faultlessly uplifting beat. So, why not get off your indie high horse and let yourself get sucked in to the wonderfully geeky world of the Scientists?
