"You know the preacher likes the coast..."
So sang The Mamas and The Papas in one of the best and warmest songs ever made. Now I see why the preacher liked the coast so much; it's because California has got all the best bands of the day. The Union Line, Dusty Rhodes and The River Band and Voxhaul Broadcast are just three of the amazing bands making the kind of music nobody in Britain is coming anywhere close to at the moment.
Maybe it's the sunshine on their backs that is propelling them to such great sounds. Heaven knows this rain isn't inspiring me any more. As much as I love Joy Division and the rainy sounds of Manchester, I think these three bands should come to England and brighten our days up and teach our musicians to redisvover how to make great tunes and stop posing. All we produce lately are pretentious people with no substance, bar one or two good bands.
Better yet, we should all charter a jet and go soak up some sun and some waves.
That is all.
Everybody now: "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey..."
