You wanna play with the Bizzle? Lethal Bizzle's new single 'Going Out Tonight' is an exercise in just that. Moving away from Garage and Grime to mainstream dance, this is a perfect party tune but don't go expecting anything else from it.
Grime reflected the dirt of the street and a sense of struggle but this latest track is pure show. Not just lyrically superficial but also musically devoid of depth, 'Going Out Tonight' is well formed but, frankly, soulless pop music. Reminiscent of tracks like 'Flex' by Dizzee Rascal, the difference between these singles is that Dizzee kept just enough sleaze in his mix to get people feeling filthy as they were grinding.
Mechanical, industrial sounds crank into place and lock with the bass reflecting, to some extent, the manufactured, processed feel of this tune. Female chorus vocals become unbearably repetitive and their slightly off key tone begins to grate against the inside of your skull. 'Going Out Tonight''s saving grace is the quality of Lethal Bizzle's vocals. Retaining their familiar force, he still manages to lend a menacing air of power that reminds us what he's capable of.
Special mention however, should go to the second out of three remixes of this track. Ruffling the perfectly preened feathers of the original, it adds the guts back into Bizzle's music and brings in a thumping bass that is impossible to ignore. Other remixes of the single fall sadly flat in comparison.
