Let's get the important facts out of the way first, Cajun Dance Party are young. Fact. When their demos circulated last year, they were over-hyped. Fact. Because of this they are bound to be rubbish. Not fact.
The fourth song to be released off their debut album is the first since it actually came out. It's also the title track. 'The Colourful Life' is a summer ditty that puts a smile on the grumpiest of faces. Its title fits perfectly, for if your life was as colourful and happy as this you will end it telling yourself you didn't do badly.
It's all jingles and jangles, acoustic guitars and drum brushes, with the odd hand-clap thrown in for good measure. All of this builds to an orchestral end which makes you want to grab the nearest member of the opposite sex and dance up close until the sun goes down.
'The Colourful Life' may be a little sugary-sweet for some, but after a big main meal you have definitely earned a dessert that cheers you up - and that is exactly what this does.
Cajun Dance Party haven't reached their potential yet, but that doesn't mean that where they are now isn't still good. So while they polish the edges of their rough diamond, sit back, get a beer and put another burger on the barbeque. Summer has arrived.
