Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood (679)

Marina Diamandis, better known as Marina and the Diamonds (kind of like Florence Welch and her Machine) is the UK's equivalent of the infamous Jamaican bobsleigh team. Why, you might ask? Well, they both came second.

But coming second in the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll to Ellie Goulding has done nothing to stop Marina from attacking the music scene head on. In fact, the NME favourite has come up trumps with her single 'Hollywood'.

Infectious to the point of painful, 'Hollywood' is the kind of song you need to listen to at least 10 times in a row. AT LEAST. You see, her voice, for one, is flawless. Unlike many of her fellow female singers, Marina has a delicious little Welsh twinge which shines as she sings about her obsession with America. Couple that with her very clever, witty lyrics and the kind of dirty pop riffs that have you swaying on the bus and you have yourself one fantastic single.

Marina's all the rage right now, and quite rightly so. She's on top this time, slapping Goulding in the face with a big wet kipper.
