Gone are the irritating novelty routines of Whigfield and every other euro-dance garbage that the Kingdom of Denmark has unashamedly exported to this fair isle of ours. That's right Aqua, there's a new band in town and not a Barbie Girl in sight.
OK, so the name might not roll off the tongue as easily as Junior Senior, but The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are hijacking our airwaves intent on bursting out their Danish bubblegum pop. Together for little over twelve months, interest in the band has swelled since Apple's use of 'Around The Bend' on a recent iPod Touch commercial; as a result, their debut single 'The Sun Ain't Shining No More' is once again seeing the light of day.
A swirling psychedelic-pop embrace of 60s melodies, Stax and Motown, Mette Lindberg's seductively scratchy Scandinavian vocal drags you willingly into an upbeat world of casual love, lust and almost predictable consequences, as bass, drums, revue style brass and strings form the basis of a cautionary tale. A fantastic introduction to the year from a fantastic band, best played when sunny.
