Trip - River Phoenix (Unsigned)

'River Pheonix' is the brand new single from Trip (better known as Alex Child), a young rap artist with a gift for words; he's comparable to Marshall Mathers (Slim Shady or Eminem) and Mike Skinner of the Streets. In fact, the entire track sounds like a Streets cover, from the bass and guitar line accompanying social commentary, followed by the vocal chorus.

It's a mix of rap and rock but not without a little punk influence, too. The song speaks about actor River Phoenix, who died on Halloween morning 1993 of a cocaine overdose, and the efforts of the vocalist to stop his potential girlfriend crying over the death of this actor.

Trip has worked with the likes of Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake, and is currently planning a new album - Short Cuts - which seems to be more of the same (and it's unlikely having heard this that you'll complain). For those watching the scene, and even for those not, this track is one of the best examples of cockney musicianship emerging from North London in the last few years.

If you are in any way open minded about music, this song's for you.
